Project Life 2016: Cover Page

Last January, I shared with you what I'm doing differently for Project Life this 2016. Now (four months later, better late than never, right?), I'm sharing with y'all the cover page! I'm incredibly excited about this since (1) it's a new format (and man, I am loving 9x12" so much!) and (2) I gave a lot of thought as to how the cover page would represent my intentions for 2016. While Project Life is mainly a creative + documenting exercise for me, I want to make sure that looking back at this album years from now will remind me of what my intentions are and the goals I strived for. Enough yapping, more showing!

I shared with you last time an in-progress look at my cover page:

I've changed quite a number of things as well since then and I really like how it turned out. So here's the final cover page for my Project Life 2016:

The two things that I wanted to show in my cover page are my loved ones and my intentions for the year. I used a combination of Instax photos and journaling cards to convey those two things. The '2016' card was actually something that I made in Photoshop and printed on a 3x4" grid journaling card.

I wanted to add elements of transparency into the cover page so I opted for a "confetti shaker." Basically, I put a mixture of wood veneer, confetti and cork shapes inside the page protector and sealed it with washi tape. If you look closely, I used wood veener alphas to spell out my name ;) And a fun little coincidence happened - the next layout which was my New Year's Eve layout had a photo of me and it matched perfectly with the confetti shaker! Nice little accidental touch right there!

You all know that my focus for 2016 is creating and manifesting so it made sense for me to make the word CREATE visible on the cover page. I've also been hoarding this gold foil quote card from an old Studio Calico kit and I finally found the perfect spot for it!

Below, you'll see a closer look at the transparent elements of this layout. For the Instax photo of me and Nico, I used a transparency printed with white ink (from Studio Calico) and glued two Instax photos back-to-back to create the illusion that it's floating inside the pocket.

Here's the other side of the cover page. As you can see, I went on with the pattern of Instax + gold foil + black writing + statement journaling cards. Project Life 2016: Cover Page | Crafted by Pam

I wrote creating + manifesting with a Kuretake brush pen to remind me of my focus. Clearly, I wanted my focus to be visible in this album ;) The "golden" journaling card was also from an old Studio Calico kit that I hoarded a long time ago. The only few times that hoarding actually pays off, ha! The paint splatter art on the leftmost pocket was actually cut up from the original 'Make Good Art' painting that I shared with you on the blog! I just stamped the geometric heart on top.

That wraps up my first layout for 2016! I really made an effort to make this layout meaningful to me and not just "pretty." It took me a while to get into the Project Life groove because of all the work I've been pouring into Your Travel Story. When I got my 9x12" album in the mail a few weeks ago, it spurred on my creativity and I finished this layout in one sitting! Now, photographing layouts + blogging about 'em is a whole another beast in itself -_-

Until the next layout, happy weekend everyone!
